In particular, it starts with a single farmer by the name of Dionisio Pulido. Pulido grew corn, and on his land, there was a hole in the ground. Parícutin is located in the Mexican municipality of Nuevo Parangaricutiro, Michoacán, 29 kilometers (18 mi) west of the city of Uruapan and about 322 km west of Mexico City.
